During the 15 years I held the position of Project Officer with the Malleefowl Preservation Group, I consider one of my most rewarding succession plans was handing over the production/editing of the group’s tri-annual Malleefowl Matter newsletter to Leonie in 2009.
The group was extremely fortunate in acquiring a person with such skills to take on this paid, part-time position. Within 12 months Leonie had improved the graphic art visual design and broadened the editorial content resulting in a 12 page full colour hard copy production....
In addition to her role as chief editor, Leonie voluntarily conducted a community survey, attended board meetings when necessary and regularly attended group functions in her public relations/reporting and photography role. This included close liaison with members from all walks of life and persons of VIP notoriety including politicians, the group’s patron, renowned singer/songwriter, John Williamson, and actor/author, William McInnes.

I have had a long working relationship with Leonie McMahon, both as a colleague and fellow committee member, in addition to engaging her services as a consultant on the Pt Henry Drive Trail Project at Bremer Bay.
Leonie conducted herself with quiet professionalism, thoroughness and diligence. She liaised across a range of stakeholders, including local governments, funding bodies, artists, designers, committee members and sign writers. She has a great ability to multitask across projects when necessary. Her written work involved engaging many references and stakeholders to produce a result that the Trails Committee were thrilled with and proud of. Leonie was able to deliver the project on time and within budget.
What I appreciated most about working with Leonie was her flexibility and understanding when presented with obstacles within projects. She is able to adapt, be diplomatic and negotiate to achieve the desired result.

From the period of October 2013 to April 2014 I had the great pleasure of collaborating with Leonie McMahon of Southern Edits Journalism and Editing Services.
Leonie and I have long been colleagues in the natural resource management sector on the central South Coast of Western Australia. In later 2013, Clear South was engaged by the Fitzgerald Biosphere Group Incorporated to manage a shire-wide survey to gauge perceptions and behaviours of their key stakeholders (primary producers) to assist in the completion of the group's Strategic Plan and to guide business and project operations. This provided a clear opportunity for Clear South and Southern Edits to work together in a field where we share a common passion.
Clear South’s collaboration with Southern Edits involved Leonie assisting with: development of the survey design, development and editing of marketing material, data analysis, co-authoring of the final report and, final report editing.
Leonie’s positive and considered approach to the project was greatly appreciated. Leonie has a very calming and insightful nature and undertook her role in the utmost of professional and timely manners. The team environmental that Southern Edits and Clear South formed for this particular project was a great joy to be involved in with the final outcome being a highly professional, progressive and valuable document for the client.
I could not recommend Southern Edits more highly and I personally look forward to future collaborations with Leonie.
